Hi,
I'm after a bit of advice about clearing an old debt.
Its a bit long winded so please bare with me as any advice will be gratefully received..
A few months back i was refused a credit card from my bank so i went home and did a credit report on both My credit expert and Noddle. While the credit expert report came back good, the noddle report showed that i owed money on a cahoot current account which i thought i closed a few years ago.
I had a Cahoot current account, which to my knowledge had been closed in 2007. According to noddle there is still an outstanding balance. I've contacted Noddle to remove this but they have refused as they say it is still owed. I no longer have any paperwork relating to this account so cant prove otherwise.
I need to know where to turn as I don't want to contact Cahoot direct just yet end up with a huge bill that I've not know about for the last 5 1/2 years!

What data regarding the Cahoot account is reported on the Experian report?0 -
Is a default listed? If so, what is the default date?Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

In six years from action it will be statute barred, keep digging and a debt collector will buy the debt flagged up on Noddle, obtain a CCJ and send bailiffs.
You should check your dates, work out the statute barred date, Six years from last payment or acknowledgement of the debt and keep your head down until the deadline.
Or you can open the can of worms.Be happy...;)0 -

This is kind of what i'm scared of however I'm looking at getting a mortgage in the next 12-18 months and don't want this to bring me down.
The last i can remember dealing with this account was roughly summer 2007 when a debt collector contacted me and we agreed a payment. This seems to be reflected on the balance history on noddle, where it goes down from £881 - £200 but there's still a debt? also it randomly goes back up again in dec 2010 and straight back down again to £200 the following month.0 -
The date it says is 25-4-07 but the history shows defaults every month since, just with the change of amounts
Well, the whole account will disappear off your report by the end of next month no matter what you do.
So you may as well sit tight.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

Thanks everyone for the quick replies. how long would it take to get a decent rating once this is sorted?0

Who knows? It all depends what you have on your report once the defaulted account comes off.
Any application you make then will judged on that and only that.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB
