in Credit cards
Hello,
Never used PayPal and need some advice. I understand that to open a PayPal account (I need to use it to pay some overseas merchants who only accept PayPal payments) I need to link the account to a bank account or a credit card.
I do not trust PayPal too much and do not wish to give them any access to my bank account of credit card details. I was wondering whether thee are any 'disposable', 'top-up' type of credit cards which I might be able to use instead. I do not need any large credit limit - £200-300 would be sufficient.
Any ideas (including costs/fees)?
Many thanks

You don't need to link it to anything, but then you have a problem of how to get money into it.
You can buy "paypal" vouchers at certain branches of boots. This functions like a virtual CC

I've done it several times without any problems. The people who have problems (and post on MSE about it) haven't read all the details and T&Cs.
The main catch is that when you first add it to a paypal account, it will authorise £1, which you need to get back by emailing 3v.
Otherwise you can only spend £49 (if you buy the £50 version) and there will be no way of getting the £1 out unless you can buy something for £1.
Since your purchases will be £300 you'll need to get 5 or 6 of those and there is a fee for combining them (as paypal doesn't let you pay from more than 1 card).
If your items don't arrive and you get refunded to a virtual CC, then you have the problem of getting that money back into your bank account.
If all you are going to do is buy, there is really nothing to worry about giving your real details to paypal0 -
Or just give the cash to friend/colleague with a paypal account and get them to pay for it?0

Thanks for the info. Yes, all I want to do is buy but spreading my financial details to more and more organisations does not really appeal to me. We every so often hear of hackers stealing user data and I tend to take a cautious approach0
