Faulty racing wheel from Argos

Hi,
I purchased a Xbox racing wheel from Argos on the 28/12/12 and it has developed a fault after roughly a month. When in the 12 o'clock position the wheel shakes aggressively and has gotten worse over the next couple of weeks. I can't post a link to demonstrate this because I'm a new user. It does appear to be a common fault online.
Argos don't have another in stock and don't stock an equivalent product for the price.
I went into Argos Tues 26/02/12 to explain the situation, spoke to a manager who refused to refund the product and offered a gift card for the full amount. He said there as nothing else they could do because it is their policy. I refused and left still with the wheel.
I emailed customer services last night (Sun 17/03/12) and received an email this morning apologizing, and was told to return to the store where the situation can be resolved - with a reference number.
Just been in this afternoon where the same manager explained I need to contact the manufacturer of the wheel as it isn't their problem.
I'd appreciate being pointed in the correct direction with this situation.

If the item is faulty they can repair, replace or refund at THEIR option.
You shouldn't have to accept a gift card though, they should offer you one of the three above.
You can't, for example, force them to give you a more expensive wheel at no extra cost.0 -
I appreciate your post though it doesn't quite solve my problem. I'm aware about repair, refund or replace. I was not trying to get a more expensive wheel out of them or make profit. All I was trying to explain was that replacing the product is not an option is this particular circumstance. Ignoring this particular circumstance though.
This issue is getting Argos to comply, and offer to repair, replace or refund the product. The manager has refused and referred me to the manufacturer, which isn't relevant in this particular circumstance.0 -
Have you tried another branch, or gone back to customer service stating the manager's refusal to assist?0

From my earlier post, I said:
'You shouldn't have to accept a gift card though, they should offer you one of the three above.'
This is still the case - they HAVE to refund in cash (or onto a card if paid that way) but a gift card is not an option.
Speak to Customer Service and keep escalating the complaint, they can't insist you take a gift card.0 -
I have only just emailed customer services again in the last 10 minutes though I don't expect a response until tomorrow morning. I have not tried another branch though that possibly is the quickest way to resolve the problem. I might try that tomorrow0

Ok, I'll be persistent and patient.
Thank you both for your time.0
