Car insurance claim problem

Hi,
Just need some advise.

Current insurance expires: 31st March 2013
New insurance starts: 1 April 2013

I recently received my car insurance renewal invitation from eSure. After trawling through all the comparison websites, I decided to go ahead with the eSure renewal invitation as it cheaper. I rang eSure on Saturday (16th March 2013) and paid the renewal in full. Yeaaaa. I thought to myself, that's 2013/2014 sorted.

On Sunday (17th March 2013), something unfortunate happened. I had a minor car accident. I scraped the front left bumper of my car against a wall. No other cars are involved. There are visible scratches. The front left headlight is slightly out of alignment but lights are working.

I am considering getting it repaired through eSure because the cost of a brand new bumper would cost about £300 excluding labour. The compulsory + voluntary excess for my current insurance is £200.

Will eSure penalise me by increasing the premium for the renewal insurance I paid on Saturday even though I have already paid in full?

Thanks.

    Thanks.

If the bumper isn't damaged (just the paint) it can probably be repaired/resprayed. Why not get some quotes before phoning esure?

If you claim from your insurance you can be sure your new premium will go up wheather you have already paid for it or not. Plus you will need to pay your £200 excess.

Me personally since there was no other cars/people involved, i'd get the headlight fixed with the £200 and fix the scratches when i could afford to.

They will recalculate the premium which means it may go up.

The fact you have paid in full is irrelevant I'm afraid.
  • Yeah they will recalculate. You may have paid in full but the insurer will say that the risk that the policy is based on has changed prior to renewal therefore they will have to charge based on that new risk.

"May go up"? I'm guessing that is like the sun may come up tomorrow?
  • Probably a way of trying to let the OP down carefully but the correct term would be it will go up, because there's no chance of it not being the case.

Don't think we'll see the sun through the snow.

OP....as other have said, certainly get some quotes before contacting your insurer.

I strongly suspect that your best route is going to be to just pay to have it fixed and forget it ever happened

Fault claim loading, excess and loss of NCB is going to add up to ££££ over the 3/5 years you will need to declare it if you mention it to your insurer

    Thanks for advise guys.

I guess not going through insurance will be less painful in the long run.

Going to get a quote tomorrow.

bumpers can be repaired very cheap , they use plastic weld etc and you cant tell they are done. about £150-£200 max
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.
