Tips on buying a New Car in my case an Hyundai IX20 Style
Options
I have just completed the purchase / negotiation of a new Hyundai IX 20 style for myself and a IX20 active for my daughter. We both traded in Hyundai vehicles, my own being a Hyundai I20 (2 years old) and my daughter an I10 two and a half years old (with over £1200 of body damage as quoted by Hyundai bodyshop to a wing mirror / door which needed repair).
I had an idea of the p/x prices for both vehicles both adjusted for low mileage but decreased value in my daughters case for the damage.
To sum up what I found -
Firstly do your research on P/X value via Glasses, what car, etc on the internet (cost free) - I used the valuation as a bare minimum.
Secondly as we were moving up grades/class of vehicle I knew that meant more profit for the dealership so told them in no uncertain terms that I expected the P/X prices to be adjusted higher.
Thirdly as it was a two car deal I did not just obtain one quote from our local dealership but contacted two others in a 50 mile radius.
The forth thing I learnt which really I was amazed at was that I honestly thought that all dealerships had to stick to offering the manufacturers promotional campaign discounts (in the IX20 case a £500 discount on any finance package deal taken or 50% deposit and then 50% interest free for 3 years - which I could not afford) - This proved not to be the case, I will sum up later,
The fifth thing I learnt (or secured which I normally do are free mats and mudflaps and more than a drizzle of petrol in the tank).
To sum up doing all of the above things landed me with a P/X of £500/£800 greater than the published highest P/X deals on each vehicle together with an additional £500 discount on each vehicle above the manufacturers published campaign £500 discount.
Other bonuses are the
5 year unlimited mileage warranty
5 year top tier membership to the RAC recovery service (single vehicle only)
3 year maintenance plan costing only £349 which would save around £350 as it is a condition to retain your warranty to have cars serviced by an a workshop who carries out maintenance following Hyundai manuals using genuine Hyundai spare parts (where applicable).
All in all we are both happy with the savings we have made and now look forward to taking delivery of our new cars.

1.6 CRDi Blue Drive Style 5dr; £13,616 is the cheapest (quickly) that I could find. Did you beat that?0

Sorry to have to take you to task regarding servicing within the warranty period. It is against the law for any manufacturer to insist that you have your vehicle serviced at an "approved" garage in order to preserve the warranty.
Vauxhall now give a 10 year/100K mile warranty on their cars.
The 3 year maintenance plan is another way of getting money out of you.0 -
Hard to compare as we went for the petrol 1.4 5dr style because of our low mileage per annum. After my P/X £6500 (which was £500/£1000 more than some sites report and £1000 dealer discount it came to a net £6815/£6215. It is so difficult to benchmark discounts and different models as profit margins differ against different models and higher demand models will command lesser discounts. However, it does look like you secured a good deal Socrates
. I never really considered the 1.6 CRDI as we only do around 5/6000 miles per annum. The real purpose of the post was just to give the less astute buyers (unlike obviously yourself) some tips as to how to leverage a better deal for themselves rather than just walking into their local Hyundai dealer unprepared. Happy motoring

andygb - The insistence is not using Hyundai workshops but insisting that all maintenance is carried out in accordance with the manufacturers maintenance/service plan and using genuine manufacturers parts. I understand that other garages probably carry out the same quality service using genuine manufacturers parts and most serviceable parts should not cause any malfunction in the vehicle running anyway. I guess it is down to peace of mind at the end of the day - Hyundai dealer local to me just had a promotional discount on servicing anyway which made them only very marginally more expensive than other local garages. Plus as I had a full manufacturers stamped maintenance manual I am certain this made a sizeable (£300 difference) in my trade in value. I guess it comes down to what you can afford at the end of the day and your own perception of risk and how long you plan to keep the vehicle for.0
