Fitting an alarm sorta advertises that you might just have something worth nicking!

+1 for the dual tec detectors, I often fit them in living rooms and hall ways, or any where else you get draughts or moving curtains etc

Texecom alarms are decent, when I worked for the council all we used to use was challenger / C&K alarms - dead easy to program however we moved onto the Texecom alarms and they were just as good if not better.

Texecom I would say far better than the Honeywell system, they (Honeywell) used to be Accenta panels....had a few problems with them over the years ! things burning out in them and often blowing the board after power cuts etc.

Atlast, got the alarm down to 2 suppliers!

    Your thoughts please:

    http://www.digiteck.net/productdetail.php?productid=881&categoryid=
Just been emailed the following from digiteck:
    5x Pir detectors
    5x Surface magnetic contacts
1x scantronics 9651en-43 (with 3 proxy tags to arm / disarm system)
    1x Keypad
    1x Sd 1+Speech dialler
    1x strobe siren sounder
    3x panic button
    1x extension speaker
    1x 100m roll of 6core cable
    1x internal sound bomb
    1x 2.4amp acid battery

total price will be £374.00 including delivery

Know about price differences, but what about ease of programming etc?, Digiteck said they "give" free lifetime over the phone help with their alarm. If they can't fix it, were given a pin code to call scantronics free & use their engineers......

The Scantronic system quote is very competitive as it also includes an auto-dialer. The Texecom system that you are comparing it with is basic in comparison.

Def, but i can add on things so its not a problem, am more thinking for those of that have these/install these, ease of programming, maintenance, false alarms etc.

Ah, didn't realise you were installing it yourself. The Texecom support/forums are good. Cooper/Scantronic support tends to be exclusively for professional installers - I'm not sure how the PIN system works where you can speak to their engineers directly?

False alarms occur due to poorly installed sensors - siting and wiring. This can be minimised/avoided with newer hybrid sensor technology - both for PIRs and shock detectors.

Can you be a bit more specific about what you mean about maintenence? You will probably need to change the back-up battery every couple of years and periodically conduct a test on each sensor to make sure it is reporting back to the panel as it should. Although, most panels now have a way to self-test.

I am still not keen on the idea of a kit, there may be some 'bundle discount' in the deal but your likely to end up with some things you don't need and some things you will have to add on which will go against any cost saving with the bundle. Some of the bits in the bundle will be not would I would buy but you're stuck with them.

Most alarm stuff works with any other stuff (very generally!) PIR's and contact sensors works with panels, bellboxes work with panel, usually the only bit that needs to match by make and type is the panel and any remote control panels.

I would just come up with a plan of what you need where, and just try adding those things to a basket on a site, add in a drum of cable.

The PIR's in both kits sound pretty basic so wouldn't be my choice. I wouldn't use vibration sensors either.
