Hi guys,
Just looking for some quick information regarding an old bank account and a small debt. Towards the end of last year I wanted to close my account with the Halifax, it was a reward account costing me £15.00 a month which was a waste really. Therefore, I contacted Halifax and asked about closing my account and repaying the remaining overdraft in installments.
I received a reply stating that they had closed my account and that they accepted my offer of repayment. However, a few weeks later I got a statement with a new monthly charge for the account. I contacted them again, but this time I never received a reply. The following month I then got another statement with a further £15.00 added on top of last month’s charge and a replacement card. Clearly they never closed my account.
Earlier this year I then received a letter from a group called Moorcroft Debt Recovery, but someone informed me that if I had an agreement with the bank and I’ve contacted them then I have no reason reply this company. Ignoring the letters, I then received another letter from another company called ‘midas credit services’ saying they are part of Moorcroft.
Am I obliged to deal with these people if I had an agreement with the bank, taking note they have failed to respond to any of my enquires? I never received any information from the bank informing of Moorecroft, only about the failure to pay my monthly charge for an account that was supposed to be closed. When I received this letter, I contacted them as I’ve already said.
I still have a copies of my letters and a copy of the letter where they agree to my offer of repayment. Also, I have kept the card showing that my account is still open despite the fact that it was supposed to be closed.
Any information would be greatly appreciated,
Thanks
