We had a go at selling the house with Halifax 3 years ago and weren't very impressed. Found that their opening hours were limited, often no-one would answer their phone, and a few times they mixed up viewing appointments. Once they made an evening appointment for some buy-to let people to view - no-one turned up. Rang them the next day "We don't know anything about it" - so I just imagined it then - OK! No sign of an apology.
They also have a weird system of using a centralised office somewhere in the country for getting buyer feedback. We took it off the market in the end, as we were fed up of being messed around, and decided to improve the house before selling, (which we are still doing now - but it's going to be this year, honest!)0 -
Even Halifax's complaints dept haven't got back to me,as they said they would, what a useless organisation!0

When we were buying, we went into halifax. I got the distinct impression that I wasn't welcome. Perhaps cos my budget was too small who knows.
Anyway now that I am selling and buying I tried them again and still exactly the same. There fees are high, they over valued my house by a good 10k (would never have had any interest at the price they wanted to market it at) and above all they show a complete lack of interest. Tried to arrange a viewing through them last week - still not heard a jot from them.
Steer clear.0 -
The estate agents are very separate to the bank
who are you complaining to? the estate agents?0 -

I have been in estate agents looking at details a few times whilst agents sit around pulling numbers off the top of their heads for house prices having never seen them. Quick guess then add 20 grand "'cos it's a while since we sold one down that road". Scarry. They often don't visit houses at all for weeks, photographs take an age to find their way onto details etc. a lot of properties are sold sight unseen by the agent."I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. I do and I understand." — Confucius0

We originally had our house no the market with Halifax. 6 months and nothing, a few viewings but no offers. Changed estate agents and now 2 weeks down the line we are sold, have had an offer accepted on our next house and a re finally moving.
We got the impression that Halifax work on getting loads of properties on their books and hoping that people make an offer, but if there was any selling to do they weren't interested.0 -
Precisely why people should never go for the cheapest 'survey' option when getting a mortgage. It's very common, for Halifax at least, to do this.0
