Halifax mortgage protection payments

Hi,

After some advice please.

We (Husband and I) have had a joint mortgage with the Halifax since 1999. When we got the mortgage I was told by the Halifax that as I was a Director of a Ltd company (only small company that was set up in 1998) and had no sickness scheme or redundancy package (apart from what was legally required) I would need mortgage payment protection from them.

My Husband worked for the Halifax then and the advisor was a 'friend' of his. He basically told us that he would let us have the mortgage but I would need to take out the policy he advised to get the mortgage. We have re-mortgaged since then to have work carried out on the house and at that point was told again I still needed to keep my payment protection policy in place (it would pay the mortgage payments for 2 years if needed) when I queried it.

We are still paying the mortgage protection payments but now am wondering if I should contact them re false selling. I am still working for the same business and still a director.

Any help would be much appreciated.
:o

If it was a condition of your mortgage, you have no complaint.

No wasn't a condition of the mortgage he told us I 'must' have payment protection in place as I worked as a director for a newly formed small business.

If it was not a condition of the mortgage then all you need to do is provide Halifax with the evidence to support your allegation and they will uphold the complaint. If you have no evidence then it is just heresay and an easy rejection on their part. Especially with mortgage protection where most of the population take it out willingly and with good reason. You would be complaining against the norm.
