Hi Everyone,
Sorry to ask a stupid question but after reading thru all the threads and one tel site I cant tell whether I will stay on BT light User scheme if I sign up for the one tel deal. I understand it routes all the calls so does that mean BT dont know I have this?
Is this a better deal than Talk Talk?
Also am I reading it correctly that you can only sign up if you are a new telephone connection or just a new customer to One Tel.
Apologies if this questions have been answered but I am on dial up and it is soo slow.
Thanks in Advance

I think you'll find BT have all the bases covered:
The first one stops you from using any CPS provider and 18866, 1899 etc. but the second one is the real 'catch most of the rest' - if you own a cellphone, you don't qualify! It is important to note that customers are not eligible for the Light User Scheme if they:- have a telephone service provided by another supplier, either directly or indirectly
- have a telephone service provided by a mobile network operator, either directly or indirectly
- have more than one telephone line at the same or different address, for example at a holiday home
- have an ADSL
- have a line used exclusively for a burglar alarm (this does not include "lifeline" alarm systems which are also used as telephones)
- have an ISDN line or business line
- have a payphone line, residential BT rented cardphone or temporary line.
- have a line with incoming calls barred (i.e. your line only allows outgoing calls)
- have an incoming line only, because you owe money to BT.
- If customers have a second line because they are responsible for paying the telephone bill for a relative, they may be eligible.
Their - possessive pronoun (owned by them e.g. "They locked their car").
They're - colloquial/abbreviated version of 'They are'
There - noun (location other than here e.g. "You can buy groceries there") OR adverb (in or at that place e.g. "They have lived there for years") OR adverb (to or towards that place e.g. "Go there at noon") OR adverb (in that matter e.g. " I agree with you there").0 -

To use TalkTalk or OneTel (or any other company) via the CPS (Carrier Pre-Selection - ie all calls are routed via them) then you will need to upgrade from BT Light User Scheme to BT Together Option 1. BT do not and will not allow you to use another telephone provider for outgoing calls whilst still on BT Light User Scheme.
In the past a few people tried this and even OFCOM stated that those on BT Light User Scheme or BT Contact Plus (incoming calls only) package are not able to use other telephone providers.
As you can make freephone calls, you may get away with signing up to Call1899 (you can access their system by dialling a freephone number) and pay only 3p per call but you can't sign up to TalkTalk, OneTel or any other provider that uses the CPS system.
Be warned that although you may get away with making calls via Call1899's freephone access number, BT would be within their rights to to either block access or move you to the BT Together Option 1 package once they realise (that is assuming they haven't already blocked access).
Yes, OneTel or TalkTalk (or anyother CPS provider) ask permission from BT and have them (BT) arrange the transfer of outgoing calls from BT to which ever company you signed-up to.I understand it routes all the calls so does that mean BT dont know I have this?
Both OneTel and TalkTalk generally charge round the same for geographical calls (although TalkTalk are slightly cheaper for calling mobiles) but with OneTel you get a £20 credit for signing-up with them and if you sign-up before the end of this month, you can get free evening & weekend calls for a year.Is this a better deal than Talk Talk?
We personally, use OneTel for the free evening & weekend calls, and Call18866 for daytime calls. Also am I reading it correctly that you can only sign up if you are a new telephone connection or just a new customer to One Tel.
You can sign up to either OneTel or TalkTalk whether you are a new customer or not but to take advantage of OneTel's free evening & weekend calls (and their £20 call credit) you have to be a new customer to OneTel (ie. you have never signed-up to OneTel before).
There are several threads to help you choose, see MSE Martin's Cheapest Home Phone Calls Provider article. If you wish to discuss things then visit Cheapest Home Phones Provider discussion area.
*** Update - it took me that long to write this out that April had already answered the bit on Light User Scheme. lol :rotfl: ***0 -
Thanks for answering so quickly, I will now take time to digest and decide what to do.0

To answer your question regarding TalkTalk, the Ontel deal is better than Talktalk at the moment as Talktalk have dropped the free year of eve and w/end uk calls at the end of March.0
