    I haven't looked at the tins on e-bay, but if the 'flat' cake is in the shape of Thomas, then could you not just stand it up to get the 3D effect? Maybe flatten the bottom of the wheels to make it stand.

    Might have to make 2 slightly thinner cakes and sandwich them together to get a thick enough train.

    i wanted a dora explorer cake tin for my daughters 3rd bday but the prices were extortionate (sp)so i didnt bother :(

    The tins seem to make ther money back on ebay so i suppose i could sell it after use, also i really want a thomas cake so if i buy a tin i'll still be saving on buying a cake off a cake maker.
    This is his 3rd birthday and it's the first one where he actually understands so i want to make it really focused on what he likes.
