Hi
I wasnt sure wether to post this here or the celebrations board, but chose here seeing as it's sort of cooking!

There are a few on ebay. They are a bit pricey but not sure where else to get them from.

I'd second ebay - I must admit they sell well on there - if I see any novelty cake tins at bootfairs I buy them and resell on ebay.

Failing that - look in your local yellow pages or yell.com and see if there's a party shop near you - some of them hire out cake tins...might be worth a try?

Thanks, i've been all over my town looking for places that sell or loan the tins but the only place that do has shut down, am gonna dig out the yellow pages and see whats in the surrounding areas.
Haven't managed to find the exact one i want on ebay, still searching!
I want a 3D one, it HAS to be 3D! although if i reallly cant find one i'll have to go witht he flat ones, whch i have seen online for about £15.
At least i know i can make most of the money back by selling it after i use it.

If you look on ebay under 'Wilton 3D Thomas tin' it brings up a couple of hits. Hope it's what you are looking for? (& I wish my mum made me cakes like that )

http://thecookskitchen.com/browse_7335 found this one! aint cheap mind, maybe lil spud will be getting a different train every year up until his 21st to get your moneys worth out of it :D:D

My dad has been known to make cakes like this before, and TBH he never used a tin but bought ( although I know you would make ;)) a really jumbo swiss roll and then cover with frosting, cookies for wheels etc, choc buttons for decoration...

Thnx lynz, i think it's the same as the ebay one, i was talking to my friends nan and she said we could maybe make one so your suggestion sounds good, i think they done that on big cook, little cook (cebeebies)
I idealy want a thomas one as he is getting a thomas bike for his present from me and the party is thomas theme.
So i'm thinking do a flat cake with thomas and possibly a swiss roll one, it can be done chap enough i guess.

Could you not just make the shape and use buttercream to shape it (3d-alize it) or use extra cake to place on the actual cake?

It might be alot of messin g though?

just had a thought, what about using a loaf tin slicing the top off where it goes raised ( save this) and then flip[ping it upside down on a board and then carving around it to round it off with a utility knife- decorating it with cream cheese frosting like you use on carrot cakes? that might be fairly simple?

I wonder if you cn buy rice paper thomas faces, then it would look authentic, but without laying out 20 quid on a tin !
