Adaptations needed in the home

My mother is likely to need a stair lift fitted to the home and possibly a shower instead of a bath but as she is on DLA and her husband is on ESA they cannot afford this.
She is currently in Addenbrooks but physio there have not seen her yet and OT haven't said much but this may be in part due to my Mum not pushing to get answers. Neither have said she will deffo need a stair lift.
My Mum ideally wants a bungalow but private rarely come up at the LHA rate and they are not on the social housing list so would have to get put on the waiting list from the beginning for a council bungalow which is likely to be a long process.
My sister spoke to the physio/health services dept here and has been told they need to complete a form (which is being posted) for a stair lift and the private landlord has given permission for one.
What funding is available? How long would it take?
The only funding info I could find is a disabled facilities grant but it sounds complicated for example, we need to provide estimates for the work and they have 6 months to confirm if we are approved or not.
Will the council provide details of contractors who could do it? and if my Mum needs a stair lift because she can't manage the stairs at all what will happen then?

My in laws need ground floor accommodation and got their within a couple of weeks in Manchester.
I cannot help I'm afrain with the grants etc, but I am interested in the answer as my condition continues to get worse, as does my mobility, and hand rails etc are quickly becoming a necessary requirement.[SIZE=-1]To equate judgement and wisdom with occupation is at best . . . insulting.

Get them on the social housing list asap. As they are disabled they should have some form of priority/additional points and if it is anything like our council there isn't a first come first served list, you have to bid on properties that are suitable once a week, and you will be chosen for the properties on the basis of suitability.

The council here require a face to face interview before putting anyone on the housing list which is what they will do but cannot do until my Mum is discharged for hospital.
But in the mean time what will happen until she manages to bid on a suitable property? if OT says she cannot get up the stairs at all, where will she go?
I don't understand how it is cheaper to rehouse into already limited social housing than install a stair lift though :-S0 -
Also they would need to rehouse my sister and I. I moved back home after being laid off and while I am looking to move out, the number of people who will take lodgers on DSS is slim so the council would need to help me and my sister so not sure how it will work out cheaper.
If it happens suddenly they will have to pay for me to live in a B&B until I find a place. I'm 27 so only entitled to a room in a shared house.0 -
The disabled facility grant scheme ends this April, which means there will be no more grants to do adaptations to peoples homes.......
Your mum will have to get the OT in the hospital to get the ball rolling for a 1 bed bungalow asap.......
All the new cut backs that are now coming into force are due to the government cutting the councils spending bill, the councils will no longer have a budget for grants........0 -

For your parents, would sheltered accommodation be worth considering? The waiting list isn't always that long (because there is a regular turnover ...), it's usually very disability friendly, and there's support available at the end of an alarm cord.Signature removed for peace of mind0
