Product key problems with Word 2007

Options
Have got a netbook with windows 7 starter edition. It has got the basic Microsft Word student and home 2007 edition. It gave me 25 times that I could access it before I needed to put in the product key .Not being too computer literate I didnt know that this was the 25 digit code on the underside of the netbook.:o
Unfortunately , it has faded that much that even after taking a close up picture of it , I cant make out the characters.

Is there any way of finding out the code online or any other way of getting Word ?
Only really need basic stuff for my son's homewwork (ie clip art/powerpoint) and although I can use Microsoft works , it only
has limited use without Word.

Thanks for any replies

Ditch MS Office and go for one of the free alternatives such as LibreOffice or OpenOffice.

Both will allow you to open and save documents in MS Office formats.

So I can just un-install MS and install OpenOffice off the internet ?

Its just for son's homework so as long as he can put it on a stick and take it to school.

    Thanks

It's unusual for the product key for Office to be on the laptop itself: it's more common that the product key for Windows is on the device, while the product key for Office is somewhere else. The usual situation with a laptop is that Windows is pre-installed and activated, while a trial of Office is installed for which you need to buy a product key.

It's up to you whether you uninstall MS Office (they will exist side-by-side no problems), but yes you can just download and install OpenOffice.

Just make sure that when he saves the documents he saves them in Word (.doc) format rather than the default OpenOffice format to avoid any problems opening them at school.
