My idea to help us all remember eachother.

Hi all!

can I just say first how warm it is in here. The decorating isn't the most amazing I've ever seen, but it's so cosy here I'm prepared to overlook that :beer:

This is my first post under this ID, but I have been here for a long time, under 2 or 3 id's (for different sub-forums and to keep business seperate from pleasure, nothing sinister I can asure you!)

The reason for me doing this is because I'm in a bit of a sentimental mood, and my mind suddenly flicked forward 10 years, and to the possibility of losing a lot of friends made on this site. Maybe there will be a new site, 'The Money Saving Robotic Expert' or something. It worries me. This is a nice chunk of my life since I found it, there's so many people here that will forever stay in my memory. I dont want this site and the people who make it what it is to just dissapear, fizzle out.

When my mind finally came back to the present day (with the help of a strong coffee), I had a hint of an idea which might preserve the characters of MSE we all know and love, and a way of helping us remember each other, and maybe finding out a bit more. What I've come up with might not be the perfect solution, but I think it'll help, and it'd at least be a bit of fun.
"What is it?" I hear you ask (in my imagination of course). Well, its like a big Mural. It's loosely based on Alex Tew's 'Million dollar homepage'. The idea is for all members (or over a year old to stop spammers) to be given a pixel, or a 2x2 block to put a small pic of what they want, and allow it to link to a webpage of their choice, a bebo profile, a youtube video of you and your kids or just an ebay shop- whatever you like (as long as its decent:rolleyes2 )
When you hover the mouse over the members square their username will apear to show who it is.

I have already got the template for the website, so it'd be really easy for me to set-up. It'd be free of course, and I would be willing to pay for the hosting for 20 years, as like I said I'm a sentimental sod (Any donations would be welcome though.)

So what do you guys reckon? Would you be up for contributing towards such a site by adding your pixel link?

If you want people to 'stay forever in your memory,' why don't you get their email addresses instead and actually stay in contact?

I'm not sure how to answer that.

It's more of a photo album type thing. Why take photos of people when you can see them in the flesh? Because it's there when they are not I suppose.

Well I think it's an excellent idea Alaive. (do I get prime position now:))

Problem is that you would surely have to police ALL of the links regularly to ensure peeps were'nt taking advantage and using it for self promotion, otherwise any reference to it on MSE will get pulled.

I know there would be alot of work involved initially policing the links, but I'm prepared to do that. I suppose if people redirect links or change the content then they will have to be pulled from it. Sad, but true.

No worries! You can put a pic of anything ou like in your 2x2 square, your dog, starsign, fav cartoon character or fav colour. Whatever suits you most!

I'll try and get it up by tomorrow and see how it goes. It won't be easy but I really think it'll be worth it.
