Across the board I can't see it doing much good but even bigger cuts tartgeted at certain areas such as property repairs, extensions possibly with knock on to other goods and services.

Unless he is saying that the 10% wear and tear allowance is too generous,

    Is it in your opinion?

The costs were borne to bring the property up to scratch and hence the property started off with a "loss" which menas that future profits can be retained without taxation until the value is recouped.

Part of the issue is that an accountant prepares the books for the LL. Minimises the tax liability. Ensures full reliefs are claimed. However the amateur LL doesn't put the cash aside in reserve. So if the boiler or double glazing need replacing. There's no money to fund the cost.

I too wouldn't be that surprised at the former for the chancers out there. I know one or two that don't make provision but they have negligible debt.

I guess it matters if they then have to borrow more money to do the running repairs, particularly if they are full leveraged on an I/O mortgage. Especially if more than one catastrophe hits in a short time period. If you rely on tradesmen, which you need to for certain things, then they don't come cheap.

Um. Plain stupidity on those that believe BTL is an easy way to riches.

At some point in time. The lack of funds may well come back to haunt them.

BTL is no different to any business. Cashflow is what matters. Without reserves there's nothing to tide them through the bad times.

It is certainly on the generous side for what it is (but it is small potatoes). But I suspect that it saves the Inland Revenue in their checking and administration costs.

Why would he want to do that as opposed to giving you a reason to spend?
