Just wanting a bit of advice please.
I got a Leeds City Council parking ticket 13 days ago, which I was just about to pay before the 14-day deadline passes (it's £35 now, or it shoots up to £70). But I've just noticed they've got the last digit of my car registration wrong. They didn't take my tax disc details either, and all it says is silver Ford, so hardly unique.
Should I challenge it? Or ignore it? Could they actually trace me if I did?

Thank you. Just had the thought that they may have possibly taken a photo as back-up. Not sure if councils do that (it was Leeds in case anyone has any info?).

Doesn't matter if they have, it's what's alleged on the PCN that counts.
    they can't re-issue a corrected ticket.

You are unlikely to hear anything more, but if they do issue an NTO come back for advice

If they have the wrong reg number it's game over for them, they cannot correct it afterwards, but if its something like HGI instead of HG1 for example then it could be valid. Can you just say what it was and what it should be, just last few digits is okay.

The last digit should be G, but they have typed C.

Game over for them then, they can't correct their mistake, and its likely the nto will go to some other random person with that reg number. You could tell them but I wouldn't bother myself in your situation

Thanks Stroma. That's what I thought, if I try send proof of my actual reg it's like an admission of guilt isn't it?! Think I will just ignore it then.

No this is not a court where guilt is pleaded or not. This is just penalty notice that doesn't involve court. If they do contact you by correcting the mistake you'll immediately win on appeal, so keep your PCN very safe, and come back if they play funny sods

Yep, 'game over' for them and this is the only situation where you can safely ignore a Council PCN! If you did hear anything else like receiving an NTO out of the blue with the right car reg suddenly showing on that document, then you can win an appeal that no PCN exists for that vehicle.

You will never pay this one.

And ALWAYS appeal otherwise, don't just pay even when 'bang to rights' because most can be won on appeal in the end. :)
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
