Furniture courier

Options
I've seen an item that interests me on Ebay; a 3 piece suite of 2 chairs and a 2-seater sofa. However it's at the other end of the country and is collection only.

As a result, there no point showing any interest if I can't move it. Has anyone arranged a courier for such an item, and if so, what could I expect to pay to have it transported 200 miles?

I've no intention of driving myself in a hired van, as it's only a speculative interest, but then if I see something good on Ebay at a fair price, it would be useful to know that I could arrange to have it picked up and delivered to me.

'Definate', 'Aswell', 'Rediculous', 'Payed'...and the best of all 'Could Of'. How can anyone think that 'Could Of' can actually mean anything. You may as well write 'Could Zebra' for all the sense it makes.

Before you spend time researching couriers check that your seller will allow a courier. No sensible seller will accept a courier for a collection only item.

I appreciate that, but I need to ascertain the cost of such a move before asking anyone. I don't want to ask somebody, get them interested and then let them down because I find out that somebody wants £300 to shift it.

I've arranged couriers a couple of times before for smaller 'collection only' items with no problems.

    Hi,

my friend bought Chesterfield leather settee on ebay from a lady in Doncaster, and got it delivered to SW Scotland, about 240 miles.

The seller told her to try the under-noted, as she had used him before and he was quite reasonable.

    Kev. Tel 07851 881136 kblcarriers@aol.com

You can contact him see what he charges, think delivery depends on how he can make his journey as cost effective as possible.

I was looking at a nice Chesterfield for myself on ebay, but the delivery, by seller, was £1 a mile, in my case, would've been £300, so not sure if that is the going rate.

No harm in phoning or emailing Kev.

I know someone who had a local courier pick up an antique chest that was a 240 miles round trip. It cost £150. Does that help?

It might be worth trying furniture removers as well as couriers.
    .
  • Sometimes van drivers do part loads or pick something up when the van is empty and they are returning to base- you could post on a site like Anyvan.com - I used them in the past and had reasonable service, good rates
