Splitting Delphiniums

Options
I have some lovely tall delphiniums (blue) in the garden and the plant has done very well in the past 2 years. It is now starting to grow again and looks like there will be many more stalks than before.

Can these plants be split to allow more plants to grow elsewhere and if so when would be the best time to do the split?

As you've had no other replies for your question, here goes.
I'm no expert on these, but from what I've read, as the new shoots are emerging is the right time to dig up the clump with a good sized rootball and split them, you need to split into clumps with 4 or more shoots and a good chunk of healthy root on each bit.
