Downloading Outlook

When I bought my current Windows 7 laptop, I was disappointed that Office 2010 didn't include Outlook. Since then I have been using Pegasus for my email but I don't like it much. I'd rather have Outlook (same as at work and I think it would work better with my iPod touch). Is it possible to download it safely or can it be bought on its own?

    Outlook has to be purchased.

Have you tried Thunderbird for email ?

Did you previously use Outlook or Outlook Express.

If it was Outlook Express, this is now replaced with Windows Mail, part of the free Windows Live Essentials package.

If it was the full version of Outlook then yes, you're going to have to pay extra for that. It was never intended for home users anyway.

I am sure it was the full version. At work I have both versions now but don't like Express that much. I will have a look at Windows Mail

Seriously, what? It's perfectly viable for home or business use.

I never claimed otherwise, but it's still intended for corporate users with an Exchange server. This is why it isn't included in the home/student editions any more.

I think that may have changed over the years. Somewhere I think I still have a CD which contains a version of Outlook (perhaps Outlook 98?? but definitely a full version and not Express) which was given away as a freebie with a computer magazine; it seems likely they were targetting home users at that point.

It probably was Outlook 98. That was given out on Magazines and for free download (and is almost impossible to find now!), however Outlook started it's life as an MS Exchange client, was pushed towards the home user end a bit between 1997 and 2002 as it was bundled with Office in those days, however remember that Office was prohibitively expensive for home users back then, you were supposed to use bloody MS Works. Now that cheap home use versions of Office are available... no Outlook.
