Travel Insurance - Large Family party

Hi all

We have decided this year to have a (semi) holiday of a lifetime and goto Florida for 3 weeks.

There is me and my wife, and we have 7 children (all under 15).

With flights, hotels, park tickets, car hire (van) etc the cost will be about 15K ish.

Given our needs we want to book it independantly. The usual advice is to get travel insurance as soon as the first commitment to the holiday is made.

I will be booking each part every month between now and August (when we go). So flights at the end of April, accomodation, May, park tickets June etc.

Its struck me that if any of my family are ill or for some reason unable to travel it will effect at least 2 people on the booking (eg if son breaks leg/ill I will stay home).

Is there any kind of reccomendation of insurance to cover this? Is it just "one of those things"? Should I reconsider a independant booked holiday and go through a agent for more cover or changes should the worst happen?

Any advice?

Thanks
D70
How about no longer being masochistic?
How about remembering your divinity?
How about unabashedly bawling your eyes out?
How about not equating death with stopping?

The cover you get won't matter whether you book it independently or as a package through a TA, it will depend on the policy wording.

I would suggest paying for at least part of each element on a credit card for the Section 75 protection, or a debit card for Visa Chargeback.

You will need to read the policy wording of any policy you are considering, which is time consuming, but vital.

However you could call somewhere like Direct Travel and ask specific questions about your situation.
