The N standard covers both 2.4GHz and 5GHz so the only person confusing the issue with frequency was you. As the Superhub won't do concurrent dual band you may as well forget it's 5GHz capability unless all you intend using with it is your iPhone as most older kit is 2.4GHz only anyway - even N standard kit.

I think the slows down to the slowest argument for mixed B/G/N isn't precisely correct but there will be some potential slowdown of the faster equipment simply due to the longer time it takes for transfers on B and G because WiFi works simplex only - one unit transmits at a time. There may well be other issues too.

Yes you are right of course. I was confusing the two game systems.
Not that my point about having a guest wep network from the superhub would have worked anyway. I tried setting up a wep network this afternoon but the wep radio button could not be selected. So that is another thing which does not work on the superhub(the other one is the router's timed access function).

That doesn't surprise me. It works as a very basic router but anything past the simplest requirements dictates putting the thing into modem mode and using a cable router that meets your needs.

I'm getting a Virgin Media wireless hub delivered next week, could anyone advise if I can use an ethernet connection and ethernet cable to give me a wired connection to this from my pc and still use the hub to give a wireless connection to another device like a Nintendo wii,do I have to do a certain thing with the settings to do this, also will the hub just plug and play or do I need to contact Virgin at the moment I'm using an old Virgin modem called virgin cable modem with usb connection to pc

I have been VM for years and use my own router/modem - How do I get one of these hubs and is it free?

Are youwith Virgin Media or Virgin National which is ADSL?

You can't be using your own modem on cable although you could have a VM modem and your own router.

If you are on cable you will probably get a Superhub as part of the speed doubling depending on how old your current modem is and what package you are on.

If you are on ADSL then the Superhub won't work for that.

    Hi Aardvaak,

    Assuming you are on cable...
I too was using a really, really old NTL 150 modem (small silver modem) until recently.

When VM doubled the speed in my area they automatically sent me the new SuperHub without me asking because the old modems can't handle the new speeds. From what I can tell on the Virgin Media customer forums this is standard practice as they can tell what hardware you have.
I suspect however they would have sent me one if i'd asked but until the speed doubling happened there was no need so I wasn't bothered- if it aint broke....etc.

There is a web site somewhere that you can check to see when the speed is doubling in your postcode.
