Hi all - first off I want to apologies for the long post but I have tried everything!!

Right, here goes, I have got a work laptop that is shared between me and a work friend, we both have wireless sky broadband and the laptop has wi-fi built in.
The problem is that we are both unable to connect to our respective wireless modems, using the laptop, it works fine with the security turned off on the modem but this is not an option, I have managed to get it to work with my mates AOL wireless broadband, with his security on. (It’s the same Netgear modem just different firmware I believe). The signal strength is always very good, however it does not issue an IP address - I think this is the problem. Using the computer wired I have reserved an IP address in the modem set-up but still it doesn’t work, I have also listed the Mac address for the laptop as a trusted wireless connection, but still no matter what I cant get it to get an IP address, this is exactly the same problem my work friend has, I also disabled the firewall on the laptop but still nothing.

Any ideas would be welcome as I have run out

If using XP SP2, you should be using WPA-PSK encryption? Have you entered exactly the same encryption key when trying to connect? (copy & paste) Try using a long random HEX key from here as sometimes this will resolve connection issues between different makes of equipment.

Are you using the wpa-psk/tkip key that sky supplied (usually on a credit card sized piece of paper), if you go to

    sky
    wireless settings

copy the key into the clipboard, and paste it into your laptop, but make sure you are selecting wpa, not wep.
Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time?
