Is there any particular reason you want to buy from Belfast rather than the mainland? I just ask as I would be wary of a few of the scams of Irish puppies, that turn out to never exist. I can understand if it's a particularly good breeder of your chosen breed, that can't be matched (perhaps at present) by a mainland breeder but I would imagine a good breeder would be willing to run through all the procedures with you anyway.

I too would be wondering why come here to buy a pet, unless you are buying a particular well sought out line

You need to check with the ferry line you want to sail on to find out what there policies for dogs are. When we moved over here our dog had to stay in the car not allowed in the passenger areas at all. Some ferries allow pets in cabins in crates, others have kennels

You dont need any paper work or anything, its a pet

well as I say its a question of checking the ferry company - all companys and routes have differiing policies

when I moved over here with my dog, I chose to do Stranraer to Belfast as it was the quickest crossing

I've been looking into going to Ireland for a holiday with dog (North Cairnryan-Belfast) and as it's still the UK no paperwork is needed for ferry, dog would be no extra cost but not allowed in passenger areas. It stated that on some ferry routes dogs are allowed in passenger areas if in a pet carrier.

This is Stenaline I have been looking at.

Stenaline have a dog kennels on the passenger viewing deck. (Belfast - Liverpool). But this is a long crossing circa 9.5 hours when you add up all the waiting time. If you go other routes don't forget the additional road transport time and that you are travelling with an unknown dog with unknown attributes. I wouldn't do it.

I think the op is buying a pup. Therefore a pet crate is allowed in passenger areas

Longer routes there are kennels and exercise areas
