Form to take someone elses children out of the country?

Has anyone heard of a form you need to get to take children who are not yours on holiday. my 2 nephews are going on holiday with another of their aunties and she has said she will need a form of authority to take them through passport control.

I took my niece away a few years ago but don't remember anything like this. Is it a new requirement?

We gave my mum a letter written by both of us when she took our daughter on holiday which also have her permission for any medical treatment she felt necessary whilst away.

Just typed up at home, included our passport numbers and photocopied her birth certificate and stapled that too the letter.

They were going to the Far East so didn't want any problems of then being sent back!! We also put our contact number in the letter so if immigration or hospital wanted to contact us they could do easily (we wrote them in international dialling code format)

Overkill maybe but better to be safe than sorry.

Just to add, if they're going to Spain then you'll need to contact the Spanish consulate, and they stamp a form for you to let you in. My parents took my eldest out with them and we had to get this form, cost about £10. And they did check for it on entering Spain.
