Boiler Replacement? Potternton Suprima 30

We live in a modern (built 2000) 2 bed mid terraced house. We've been here 3 months and have had no issue with the heating - bar when we first got the keys (house had been empty for 5 months and boiler needed restarting). Our 6 radiators always come on straight away and we always have plenty of hot water, we've just had our first gas bills and they are very low.

We had a gas fitter round to service the system and he remarked he was surprised that the boiler, a Potterton Suprima 30, had not given us any trouble. After further questioning and a snoop around on google I was horrified to see the reviews!

I am thinking of replacing the boiler in the next 6 months. But I am utterly clueless on what it would cost, didn't think to ask the fitter as I thought he was after a job for replacing it.... until I checked google.

Can anyone answer any of the following...

Should I make changing my boiler a priority?
What system would I need?
How much would it cost?
Would a new boiler be more efficient?

It is our first house so we are a little hard up at the moment.

You've only been there 3 months! They're not that unreliable.

No you shouldn't make it a priority.

The fitter should also have been able to tell you if it has had a replacement PCB kit.

Save some money for the day it goes fatal. If possible find out it's service history.

Then leave well alone. If its an early one and not locking out on a whim its had the replacement PCB kit. If its a later one it didn't have the troublesome bit anyway.

My suprima 50 has been in 11 years now and not gone wrong yet so they are not all unreliable .I would advise not to replace until its not economic to repair

I have the Suprima 30 (installed 1998) and have had very little expense from it. Although a bit noisy I won't be changing it until I have to. There are still some good engineers out there who know how to fix them for a reasonable cost.
  • Been in 3 months and no problems, do you know how much trouble if any the previous owners have had ? We had one for 10 years and 3 years ago the service engineers declaired it beyond economic repair. I would suggest leaving it be at the moment but putting a bit of money aside in a fund for it's replacement in the not too distant future.

:D Run it into the ground until it is no longer servicable, THEN think about the change!
