Does 1 year manufacturer warranty apply to goods already replaced under the warranty?

I bought a Kindle in August 2011. The screen froze in April 2012 and Amazon were great and sent me a replacement kindle no problem.

The replacement has been great but for sometime now the wireless hasn't been working. It's the 3G version so I've been using the 3G instead but I would like to get the wireless working as it is an essential function (especially as don't have very good 3G reception at home) but having tried all the resets on the website it still doesn't work.

My other half called Amazon today and they have confirmed that the Kindle isn't functioning properly and if it was in warranty would be replaced, but they are saying that the warranty applies to the original kindle and not the replacement. Instead they have offered me a small discount on a new basic kindle (but wont offer me a discount on a kindle white which I would quite like to upgrage to anyway), the basic kindle is no use to me.

My understanding was that a 1 year manufacturer warranty on electrical goods applied to the electrical item from the date supplied and not from the date of original purchase, (meaning that any replacement would have it's own 1 year warranty as that is standard on all electrical items) but I'm now wondering if I've misunderstood. I'd like to be clear on the facts and where I stand before contacting Amazon again.

Any help much appreciated.

That could amount to never ending warranty in unscrupulous hands. Companies like Apple give a 90 day warranty or balance of the year which ever is longer.

When you buy an item with a 12 month retailer/manufacturer warranty, your warranty is for 12 months from the purchase date - any repairs/replacements after that date are irrelevant.

ie: you bought a 12 month warranty and that is what you get !

If you're sure the fault hasnt been caused by misuse or wear & tear, you could always try a remedy under the SoGA.

Ask amazon what proof they will require to provide a remedy under SoGA. They may ask for an independent report. The cost of which would be refundable if found in your favour.

If found in your favour, you could request a repair, replacement or refund (which can be partial to take into account use you have had) but they can refuse if it is impossible or disproportionately costly in comparison to another remedy. I suspect they'd either opt for repair or partial refund.

And I imagine the partial refund will be very similar to the discount offered on a new kindle.

But the discount they were offering was only on a specific model. The partial refund means the OP could use it towards the model they wanted.

Oh yes, totally. I was trying to give the OP an idea of the amounts in question, to maybe help them decide whether it was worth it

Ah sorry, thought you were saying (or implying rather) that OP wouldnt get anything better than they're offering currently (discount on a specific model). My bad.

August 2011 purchase date. So item in not even 2 years old yet. Let's say OP paid £100; in less than 2 years I'd expect a partial refund of at least £50 ... I suspect Amazon's discount offer is way less than that.
