Complaint Against Admiral Car Insurance

Hi there,

I’m new to the forum but I thought I’d ask a little bit of advice before I put in a complaint against admiral. How much success do people have against them? They seem to have really poor customer service and I don't get any answers from them.

I had a policy previously with admiral on my old car (m reg peagout 306). In September 2010 I was driving back to uni when an old man pulled out in front of me and didn't accelerate so I went to overtake him but I car came speeding in the opposite direction. Consequently I hit the back of the car in front. we swapped insurance information and I called admiral within the hour saying that I’ve gone into the back of someone here are the insurance details can you please send me all the relevant information. They said fine no problems he might not claim against you. I then heard nothing, no letter to confirm if a claimed had been settled over even made.

I then bought a new car and went with privilege insurance who called me to say we need proof of your no claims. They spoke to admiral and called me back to confirm this was fine and your insurance can go ahead.

I then recently bought a new car privately and wanted to insure it with swift cover as they were the cheapest through the comparison website I used. After purchasing the insurance I then received a letter from swift saying that because I have had a claim on my policy within the last 5 years they would not insure him and so have no cancelled the policy. Obviously I was shocked about this letter and any insurance that is cancelled goes against you when you’re wanting to re-new.

so basically due to admiral not informing me of whats go on I've now suffered further down the line. i tried to speak to them about it, however they basically said write a complaint to us if your that bothered and they stated they sent a letter to me about it but i never received anything like that.

what kind of action could i take? complain to the fsa if i don't get any answer from them?

any help would be greatly appreciated

thanks :)

    They didnt inform you?

You informed them of the incident. Accidents, Incidents even if no claim has been made.

You should have declared this incident for 5 years.

Yeh, sorry Jonny, but they're right. You did have an obligation to report it to Swift, so it is technically not Admiral's fault.

Hope things pick up for you soon. x
  • no i'd completely forgot about it to tell you the truth. its not something that i had a problem with privledge so i was completely unaware.

thanks for your help though. ill just have to accept the cost i guess. how long do i have to declare about swift cancelling my policy?

Forever. Welcome to the world of massive premiums.

It may well be worth remembering that incident though so that you don't try to overtake when it's not safe to do so!

Think the title should be, I failed to declair an incident on renewal
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.
