What kind of quote can I expect for a garden fence

Hi
We need to renew our garden fence.

Before I contact anyone for quotes what do I need to ask / know?

Will my quote be in total?
by the metre?
a price for the wood and then labour?

What kind of things do I need to ask?
Removal of the old one?
Painting it?

Is there different types of fence?
Some more sturdy than others?

Thank you very much.

    Hi,

I recently had my garden fenced. If you show the area you want covered they will work out the quote for you. You need to consider whether you need gravel boards, height of the fence, gates etc. Any reasonable fencer should be able to advise you. Get them to come and give you a free estimate. Most fence panels are treated so shouldn't need painting. If they are removing the old fence make sure they cost this into the quote and that they take away any old fencing. I got three quotes and they ranged from 650 to 1300 and I went for the cheapest. It was an excellent job. So shop around. Hope this helps.

    Good luck

we drive by fences everyday without giving them a second glance, but needing to replace is an opportunity to explore the options. There is quite a bit to consider.

posts: timber or concrete, finishings on the top. With timer there are different girths/lengths etc.

Gravel boards - timber or concrete.

do you want waney panels or closeboard. Capping rails on top? How many arris rails?

I'm no expert but you will pick it up as you get quotes.

Quotes will vary depending on what you specify.

I say, decide what you want then get quotes for the same thing. They will vary quite a bit.

Gravel boards are small concrete panels that sit underneath the fence and stop the fence panels rotting. Normally about a foot high but you can get different heights.

we getting quotes of about £80-90 per panel (inc concrete posts + concrete gravel boars + closeboard panelling that has a capping rail). Separate to this is the disposal of the existing which is adding £60 to the cost.
  • By me a firm will fit 10 panels with concrete posts and concrete gravel boards £495 pound supply and fitted. Im in the birmingham area and i think thats a cracking deal.

I suppose that would be for a straight forward fit and supply.
