Faulty Gas Meter Reading

I take regular gas meter readings and send them to you online. I also check my gas consumption annually on 01 August each year. The past gas consumption [cubic feet] according to my meter is:
2007 to 2008 402
2008 to 2009 408
2009 to 2010 419
2010 to 2011 482
2011 to 2012 437
2012 to 2013 609
The annual increase this year is 39.4%, which I cannot explain.
No changes to my gas installation or my usage of gas have occurred since a new warm air heater was installed on 19/03/2010, and there has been no gas leaks.
I have tested my gas installation for a leak by taking a full meter reading at 8pm yesterday and 6am this morning. The reading was unchanged. Therefore, I do not believe there is a leak.
An analysis of my meter readings shows a sharp increase in consumption beginning in December 2012 compared with the readings for the previous year.
My gas meter was manufactured by Parkinson Cowan, modified by George Wilson Industries. R5. I suspect my meter is faulty, so I've reported it to my energy supplier, EDF.

Any thoughts?
Perhaps it being the coldest winter/spring for about 50 years had something to do with it?0
