Tax Credits sent my details to someone else!

Has anyone else had a letter saying there was a printer error and they have mistakenly sent your details to another person?!

Exactly - that's awful. Suppose it's put up and shut up!

Yes I got a letter from them saying they'd done this.

Although, it says on my letter that they'd like to reassure me that my address, NI number, bank details weren't disclosed to this other claimant!

How come every letter I've had from them, in the past, has always had these details on it!

I know.. that's what I thought... I have never had any other letter from them - I think they have both our NI numbers.. addresses... work details... OMG.. the more I think about it the more it annoys me!

Can you imagine if we worked for a company where Data Protection rules apply and we did this?

We'd be sacked, and quite rightly so!

I believe, you got the first page (that was intended for you), together with the 2nd and 3rd page that was supposed to go to someone else.

Only the fist page contains, address, NI number, bank details. So they’re probably right, saying that no sensitive information got disclosed.

    Hello,

Just to let you know, it affected a few thousand claimants, one of two things happend.

    1) You got someones bank details only.

    or

    2) You got someones NINO, Name and Address.

This is because the printer is synchronised to print 1,2,3,4, & 5 (your claim). But as you can probably guess, it went wrong and started printing 3,4,5 (your claim) & 1,2 (someone else's claim) or vice versa.

Hope this helps clear things up.

    Regards, Hotblu

Ps, I do know that in some cases compensation is available ;-)

What sort of cases would entitle someone to claim compensation then?
