I really don't think they will be snooping or trying to catch you out. It'll most likely be more of a chat to find out if things are OK, you're getting all the assistance you need, etc. There are a minority of people who may claim benefits and not reside in the property but sub-let it - they are the bods who should be worried about these checks.

I honestly don't think they'll be rifling through your cupboards to check for luxury items or doing anything sinister. Just offer them a cup of tea, answer their questions as best you can and it'll be fine. I suspect that if they honestly thought you were up to no good they'd be doing more than just popping 'round for a chat.

They can't do it over the 'phone or the internet because they have no way of knowing it's genuinely you on the other end.

Please don't stress about it; I'm sure it'll be OK.

    Best wishes to you. x

I claim HB from Bournemouth council, had one of these letters a while back and a really nice lady came round. Didnt ask any awkward questions/snoop etc. Just wanted to see ID.

As long as your answers match your claim you've nothing to worry about

Think yourself lucky, we had to claim last year and because i am self employed had to go in every 3mths to go over the same load of paperwork (my accounts) again and again. The same info such as tax ref no ect total pain in the neck. You have to do what you have to do though.
Glad we don't need it anymore to be honest it drove me mad.

I had this visit every year for 7 years, they said people were chosen at random for these visits. I wish I had similar luck with the lottery :D You just need to have all the info they've asked for, the people they sent were always really nice and patient, they didn't look round the house and I'd even tidied up specially!!!
