Renewing Car Insurance

Hi All
Just after some info on renewing my car insurance. I have been driving 3 years and last cpl of times I have just auto renewed with my insurers (ecar) as I havent had any issues. Now I have just had my renewal through and Im not really happy with the price. I normally stay as third party f&th to keep costs down, but after going on a comparison site I can gain insurance from another company FULLY COMP for less than I was quoted by my normal insurers. A bit of info to add to this, I have 3 years NCB and 1 accident (non fault, costs recovered)
What I wanted to know is what do I do now? Do I call my insureres and tell them the quote I have had elsewhere? If I take up policy with alternative insurer, what do I do with old company, do I have to call them? also NCB - Do I have to obtain something from my insureres for this or will a 'statement of information' be enough which was included in my renewal papers?
Thanks in advance

Its easy to do.
Call current ins and tell them of the price you found, they might even match it and bump u up to fully comp.
If not then tell current ins you aren't interested in the new quote and are leaving for the new insurer ( some people write to the insurer cancelling in writing, I don't and not had problems ) but don't forget to ask for a copy of your no claims bonus.0 -
Whilst wating for a response I recieved a call back from current insurer. I explained my situation and they didnt even try to change their quotation so I am now in process of paying deposit for new insurer on the date mine runs out. My current insurers have said that they cant send me no claims proof till my insurance runs out. My statement of imformation definatley says I have 3 years no claims discount so i definatley have this right? I dont want anything to go wrong!0

I'm on a tablet so I may miss bits out.
I always ask for proof of my ncb in case of any eventuality eg as you say in case something goes wrong but entirely your choice what you do.0 -
You should also look at cashback sites. Choose your insurer and the policy you need and then see if you can get a further discount through Quidco or Topcashback.
On my house insurance:
Renewal from existing insurer was £183.
Found same cover cheapest price for £148 from big name company, which was what my existing company charged last year.
Got another £60 cashback from Topcashback, making it £88 - less than half the renewal price of my existing provider.0 -
Sadly, there is no such thing as a competitive price for loyal customers (most of the time). I usually switch insurers every year since they fail to match the cheaper quote with a different company.
A recent example: I had to renew my bike insurance, I was sent a renewal quote for £142.50 so I checked with an online quote from the same insurer and the quote was £96 with £30 cashback. I also checked with TopCashBack and I managed to get insurance with a well known reputable company for £86 (with the cashback). That's a big difference compared to the original quote of £142.50!
I renewed my car insurance last November with the same company, but I renewed online, with a new quote which was cheaper than the renewal I was quoted, by £40. I wonder how many people just pay the renewal quoted without shopping around, just for sake of less hassle.0 -

You will only actually have 3 years NCB at the end of the current policy year, if any claims arise between now and the renewal date then both the current and the new Company will adjust the discount as appropriate.0 -
Make sure you are not on automatic renewal or continuous payment with your current insurer.
If the payments continued to be taken after renewal in previous years without you having to do anything, then it is likely you on auto renewal.
Once you have the new insurance in place make sure you call your current insurer, tell them you are going to laspe / cancel the policy from the renewal date and ask them to cancel any automatic renewal.
If you currently pay by direct debit then you won't need to do anything, but if you pay by another means such as credit card or standing order then you may also have to cancel that.
Your new insurer will ask you to send them your proof of NCD. It is a good idea to keep a copy for your records.
Make sure you have told your new insurer about the non-fault claim.0 -

Thats brilliant, thanks very much! I got really confused as I had an accident last year which was non fault, so got really paranoid over my NCB. But obviously because it was non fault I still keep my NCB.0 -
