We are debt-free after many years. However, but even now when we go for a treat we always go for fewer portions and split them up, you don'g get fat and you don't spend loads of money.

A weekly treat for us is a fish and chip night, and we feed 2 adults and a teen and a child from the chipshop for £8.75.

Thinking that you need a treat and rewarding yourself financially to feel better emotionally is what gets you into debt in the first place.

Seekert I agree - And I am having a few hiccups with trying to find a balance - and although I suppose its true that we are rewarding ourselves financially to feel better emotionally as far as what we are spending now on "wants" at the moment, I havent had a problem with this until we went "over" what we had originally agreed at the beginning of the year (Buying a takeaway this weekend). Although this upset me in that I felt guilty about it, I think that if we juggle what we have available for "wants" we should be able to stay on course and hopefully end 2013 in the black. Me and my husband have already decided that we would carry on saving where we can after we are debt free in order to get a bit behind us.. :)

Yes, you are doing well and the guilt is not helpful, its best just to start with a new day, keep calm and carry on. Being debt free costs alot both in money and in personal sacrifice. The most satisfaction in being debt free is not the money thing, its being able to be content with what you have and also being able to walk through a shop and not feel that desire to spend in order to be happy! To be in real control of your wants, after a while you figure you just don't want that stuff anymore and find other things to make you happy.:j
