We moved into our new-build home last year and after some thought, decided to have Karndean flooring installed in the kitchen and bathrooms.
The results were pleasing and we have regularly maintained the flooring with Karndean's proprietary cleaning products. Inevitably, the "basic cleaner" included with our Karndean starter pack has been exhausted, so we looked to purchase a further supply.
Our local Karndean installer didn't have any in stock (just the starter pack, which we don't need) and Karndean itself didn't have any, either. But Karndean has a network of authorised UK "online distributors" so we checked them out. Typical of such distributors is a company called Completely Flooring, an authorised UK online distributor.
Here's Completely Flooring's quote for 750ml Kardean Routine Cleaner:
1) 750ml £6.95
2) Post & packing £8.50
3) VAT £2.71
Total: £18.16.
Apparently, the £8.50 P&P cost is due to the weight of three quarters of a litre of fluid.
Ah. But. . .
£18 for a small bottle of floor cleaner???????
Yesterday afternoon, Thursday May 10th, we went on eBay and found an Oldham-based flooring specialist, Aztec Flooring
Aztec offered a 2 Litre bottle of Karndean Routine Cleaner for £7.62p, plus £6.50p P&P, total: £14.12p
So Aztec required an additional 0.50p or so (including VAT) for considerably more than double the quantity, and considerably more than double the weight, of Karndean cleaner offered by Completely Flooring. And Aztec charged £2.00 less for delivery.
We've never dealt with Aztec Flooring before so had no idea what its service would be like. Well, an hour ago, at 9.40am today Friday May 11th, the 2 litre supply of Karndean Basic Cleaner was delivered to us by CityLink courier.
Time between yesterday's eBay purchase (around 1pm) and delivery to our doorstep? 20 hours.
Product and service really doesn't get any better than this -- so to all owners of Karndean flooring, who may well (like us) have despaired of the absurd over-pricing of ancillary Karndean maintenance and cleaning products, here's our unqualified recommendation:

Aaaargh, wot a bummer!
I completely forgot to tick the 'email immediately' box re this thread.
Many many apologies to shoppaholic and cheets -- it was really great of you both to come in so considerately (and really bad of me to seem so flippin' ungrateful!)
Thanks to both of you: mucho appreciated! (And yes, this Karndean flooring does seem to be really excellent stuff!)0 -
I have Karndean flooring in my new house and we just sweep it and occasionally mop it with a cheapo cleaning product and it's fine. Sorry peeps, but I think all this 'you need our special cleaning product which is exclusive to our flooring' nonsense is just a con. Any decent cleaner will do the job for a fraction of the price.

I agree.
What started as a simple piece of advice now has spammers forming a queue to sell their own stuff.

I also agree. I have it in my bathroom and recently had some laid in the kitchen. A barely damp mop does it a treat.
I learnt my lesson years ago with these dressings they sell to put on the floor. I had Amtico tiles at the time. You put this polish stuff on then it starts look awful and you cannot just go over it it has to be stripped off.
However, you might be on a sticky wicket should you have any complaints about the floor as they advise you use this stuff and if you don't, they can probably opt out of any redress you might hope to get.0
