sending npower a bill for my time on money they owe me

Options
Hi all,

last year we left npower for another firm, we owed £6 ish for gas
they had already told us they owed us £7.60 for electricity

so i said to the wife not to pay it as they could knock it off what they owed us,

however they sent loads of nasty red threatening court action letters etc for the £6, so she paid it

that was september last year, and they still owe us £7.60 that they dont seem to want to pay back

granted it is only a tiny amount but its my money they have,

so i want to bill them charges for my time in having to mess around in getting my money back from them, like they do us average joes

is there a template anywhere for this or any legalities i can follow ?

yes i do want to pi** them off, as there quick to send threatening letters to all and sundry but not so quick to give you back your hard earned cash

please point me in the right direction

:T

You can send them whatever you like, getting them to pay it is another matter - they won't pay what tghey owe you apparently so don't hold your breath on getting extra.

Are you prepared to try & take it to small claims court? If so you'll have to first send a bill.

If not why waste your time & energy.

Of course if you were to complain to the Ombudsman (and they are required to refund any money they owe you) it would cost them when the case is taken up (about £350 I understand). ;)

Whether the Ombudsman awards you any extra for inconvenience or not would remain to be seen but there shouldnt be any argument about you getting any money you are owed.

Gas and electricity are two separate meters and supplies, two separate but linked accounts, can be seen as two separate contracts. Some suppliers will transfer money over, others will not. Did you establish that NPower would or did you just assume?

The right direction would have been to pay the money immediately instead of risking your damaging your credit files. Second step would have been to write to the Complaints Team, working through the formal complaints procedure. Hopefully you would have been offered compensation if your complaint was deemed to be reasonable. If a formal complaint has been raised but not resolved after eight weeks you could have gone to the ombudsman.

Basically there are systems in place, no reason to reinvent the wheel. It costs money to take out a small claims action and you will have to demonstrate your actual losses and I suspect the court will want to know why you have not used the ombudsman. Do you have copies of all letters you sent at the time and all recorded delivery receipts?
