Advice on laptop discount - buy or wait?

Hi all,

I'm not all that up on laptop purchasing and the frequency of discounting. For my son's birthday in July I want to buy him a laptop and have settled on the Dell Inspiron 15R SE. On the Dell Website this is currently discounted to £499 but then with a Top Cashback coupon code it comes down to £444. The code is only valid for the next couple of days.

So given that I don't need this laptop until July, should I buy now whilst the coupon discount is available or should I wait?

Thanks
Sean

It's quite easy to argue this both ways.
If you don't think that there will be another laptop you like, or appropriate discount, before July, then buy now.
    Otherwise, otherwise.

You'll get lots of people suggesting alternative laptops, like the Lenovo IdeaPad Z580, for example...

    Personally wait and see.

Three months is a long time away in laptop terms. There will always be an offer on at Dell, and chances are this will not be as current in 3 months.

You also have to consider your wasting 3 months warranty while it's on a shelf and not in use and the 90 day software support will have expired.

wait, offers, voucher codes, and cashback happen all year around, and specs improve

I would only buy if you are going to let him start using it straight away. If there is a fault with it and you need to return it, you need to do that asap - ideally within the first week. In three months time your rights will be much less.
  • Thanks for the advice all. I guess I'll wait then...
