Our small estate has windows which were made from stained deal and just needed a wipe over once a year with protective stain. One house owner decided to change his windows and garage doors to uPVC in somewhat matching wood effect. Boy do they look awful !You scullion! You rampallian! You fustilarian! I’ll tickle your catastrophe (Henry IV part 2)0

I am in the process of getting my full house double glazed and we are looking for a wooden effect on our windows as our property is an old property
We are thinking of Oak window frames but have been told by quite a few people that they are very expensive and we can do a Wood grain finish on plastic double glazing to get the same effect.
I was wondering if anyone has done on either of these and what their experience is
Have you considered, or costed, European Oak joinery from France? This was viable when the pound was more competitive against the Euro. Indeed French windows were ridiculous value. It is the opposite of the UK. Here pvcu is cheap - there are enormous manufacturers with the economies of scale. In France, pine and oak forests mean timber is cheap and the building industry and population are traditional. The window quality is good - they cope with extremes of weather. The downside is they are inward opening - to accomodate shutters on the external face of the wall.
B&Q have French depots, hence it is straight forward to investigate this.0 -
Indeed this is a public forum and the OP is asking opinions. Someone said they look 'carp', I say they are naff. Those are opinions.
If you think the finish is wonderful, then say so. But you look rather pathetic - or even hypocritical - trying to make out that people are bullying for expressing their opinions on wood effect uPVC, while all the time you are trying to bully people into not expressing adverse opinions about wood effect uPVC.
Are you embarrassed because you have done your house in wood effect uPVC?
No i havent got wood effect upvc in my home i have white upvc fitted by the builders when we bought new and my house wouldnt suit them anyway.I have however fitted rosewood upvc on 4 so far of my rental properties because it suits the houses the rest i have fitted white upvc for maintenace reasons .havent bought anything yet which would suit oak timber frames or sherwood oak upvc when i do i will bear the opinions of people on here in mind .I often wonder why so many sherwood oak upvc frames are made and fitted if everybody thinks they look crap or naff .BY the way you have got an expensive german car havent youif you think peoples advice is helpfull please take the time to clicking the thank you button it gives great satisfaction0 -

OK, or maybe not, I don't understand that to be honest, but, the OP wants oak or oak look-a-like???>
Sorry, the cost is triple or there abouts, hence the question, does the op know the costs or even what they would want.I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

A quick question for the op have you had any joinery companies round to measure your windows? i ask because you posted that you have had people round who have said oak is expensive we can do you oak pvc windows (sounds like you only asked pvc firms to give you a price) phone a few local joinery workshops up and have them measure up also check with your builders merchants as some do stairs and windows to measure and might be able to tell you who supplies them.0

lol I see you are getting into a big discussion here:) We replaced our windows lately and I took woodgrain, looks definitely better than white plastic, and they dont look dirty so quick :T We took a dorset supplier but they seem to be doing all over uk, colours and price online here. http://www.doubleglazingontheweb.co.uk/Window-Colour-Options-w-48,1.php0
