Is Everest a good mattress make please?

Hi I hope this is the right forum? I am looking for a mattress and I wandered into a second hand shop, and saw a new memory foam double mattress with springs in as well by Everest. My old mattress is slowly wearing out and I can feel the springs a bit now and it twangs from time to time (not often). The mattress is priced at £175.00 with £35 delivery. althrough the woman whom I next saw quoted £25.

I have curvature of the spine and I do sometimes get achy hips in the morning so I don‘t want it too hard. Please can you advise me, my dad wants me to save my money and go for something a bit cheaper. But I am not going to get any better then that. I have laid on it and it felt weird because of the clear plastic covering that was still on it.

I have seen one at £299 at another shop which was by a manufacturer called Viscount, but I liked that one because the cellophane wasn’t on it and I could feel it properly.

Can you advise me what I should do please? Sorry if this is a silly question? Many thanks for reading this post.

Buying a second hand mattress is a gamble, if you buy it you will be stuck with it. With your back you should seek expert advice from a proper shop, not buy a second hand one that could leave you sore every day.

Proper bed shops have trial ones you can lie on and test, these will be mostly bedded in so you get a good idea what it will be like in normal use. The sales man can also tell you what ones are firm or soft.

I tried one by Duchess which seems a bit softer then the memory foam, has anyone heard of Duchess?

Its also new and priced at £119.00

If it has any springs, it isn't a true memory foam mattress. For a double bed size, expect to pay at least £230. I wouldn't sleep on anything else now - however foam is expensive, and using springs with a MF top layer is one solution, but it is a false one.

Name brands are pointless - foam is foam, so a high density base with a 3 or 4" memory layer will be the minimum you require.

Sorry but any mattress that has memory foam in it is a memory foam mattress. Be it springs and memory foam or Reflex foam topped with memory foam.

There are very very few all memory foam mattresses on the market. Octospring is one that I can think of, but that's 4 figures. Think even Tempur is foam on foam.

If it was all memory foam then as you slept on it you would sink down onto the base of the bed. Memory foam doesn't really support much, especially when warm.

Memory foam is a very nice and hard wearing comfort layer, that needs to be supported by something under it, either springs or foam.
