Ford mondeo 04 deisel limp mode

Hi
Can anyone help. We have recently purchased a Ford Mondeo 2 litre Zetec Deisel car 04 plate. Always started a bit 'lumpy' and revs well below 1000 on idle. After changing the oil and filter we now find the glow plug lights come on intermittently, sometimes on start up and sometimes whilst running. This causes the car to run in 'limp mode'.

We have cleaned the EGR valve and put cleaner through the engine too.

Can anyone advise why this happens and what we should do about it?

Thank you

If its doing it when its warmed up, then injectors or fuel pump.

Either way, not cheap, but a common failure.
  • Hi

It is only doing it when engine isnt fully warm, sometimes on start up and other than that not long after start up. On a long journey it is not doing it.

    Glow plugs?

It still might be injectors though.

The engine management light / limp home mode would suggest it will have stored codes. You need to get them read in the first instance and see what they say.
  • Best get it scanned,to get a fault code,hopefully

You need to read thge fault codes. Its not a fault with the glowplugs. The light doesnt show that.

    Turbo or fuelling fault.

Tickover should be around 750rpm normally.

Changed the fuel filter? Fit a Bosch one only.
