a little insurance help please

basically i had a cheap little fiesta but have scrapped it i do intend getting another car within the period of insurance.

Now what i would like to know is:
can i continue the insurance on the scrapped car till i replace it knowing full well the car is a cube now or do i have to tell the insurance company the car is gone?

I believe you cannot be insured on the car as you no longer own it, unless you kept the cube, in which case it would be classed as a modification.

Insurance: Yes we do, What mods have you done.
ME: squashed it into a cube
Insurance: Are the lights legal and will it pass an MOT?
ME: err doubtful, Most of the lights are broken and point in funny directions.
