Do they supply the packing cases and stuff? Do you literally have to provide nothing and do nothing???0

Get some quotes. We literally handed the keys over at 8am and went out. They rang us when done and we went home to a completely empty house. It was fantastic. I think you can pay a bit more and they will put all the beds back together at the other end as well :-)0

I never even knew such a service existed!!! We are not moving yet, but will be in a few months probably. So this is great news. I have been DREADING it.0

Bloody hell!!!!! REALLY?!! That is bloody brilliant! It caused me so much stress and hassle last time, and it took SOOOOOOOO long! We have so much stuff as we are collectors and have 1000s of CDs, DVDs and games and books and sci fi memoribilia and ornaments etc. I would get anything 'irreplaceable' and keep it to one side, but this is amazing!
And then the regular moving costs on top I guess??? I feel like it took us about 150 man hours last time to pack everything!!! that is cheap! I was expecting like a thousand!
Ours was about £300 on top of the normal removal costs for a 3 bed house. Seriously, it's the best money you'll ever spend whilst moving house.Make £2025 in 2025

Thank you too Slinky! I am definately using a packing service when we move! And you don't have to provide anything? Like the crates or boxes no???0

A few months ago there was a TV series about removal men (Pickfords)-think it was Channel 4. They seemed to be able to cope with anything and their packing time was very much quicker than the owners.
Many years ago when we moved into the house I'm now trying to sell we used Pickfords and their packing service, plus several months storage. I intend to pay for the packing service again. The only drawback ( and it's probably different now but worth checking) was that when we moved in to our new house they just brought all the boxes into the house and left them. I don't really know what I expected them to do but, IIRC, we had to unpack very quickly so that they could take the boxes away-or perhaps they came back a day or so later? Anyway, it was certainly a mad rush to empty the boxes.
Anyway, I shall certainly pay for the packing service again.
Good luck with your move.0 -
Not that it will help you, but when you move, put all the furniture in the house and all the boxes in the garage/shed or one room. That way you can take your time doing box by box and only one room will be a complete mess! The only drawback ( and it's probably different now but worth checking) was that they just brought all the boxes into the house and left them.30th June 2021 completely debt free…. Downsized, reduced working hours and living the dream.0 -

Perhaps-but at least we had the boxes in the correct rooms, which was easier in the end than having to carry boxes in from the garage/another room.
Anyway, it's still well worth getting the packing service!0 -
Lou, you don't provide anything! As I recall, they dropped off half a dozen boxes a few days before in case we wanted to do any valuable bits ourselves, and then brought the rest with them on the day. If you have a lot, they might pack one day and then move the next, but still worth it - ours was a 2 day move, but they left the beds and kitchen to the 2nd day so we could stay there.
It's the best money you will spend ever. Ever. I know this is a money saving site, but the sheer loveliness of the whole thing was so worth it. I don't remember having a timescale to unpack to, it took me 2 months or so to do everything...0 -
Don't forget things like having to buy the plumbing wotsits to cap off washing machine pipes if you are taking the washer etc with you.
That thought hadnt even occurred to me:eek:. I just checked whether the removal firm will disconnect my automatic washing machine for me and they said they will (from memory) - or do the removal firm supply these (as I imagine its just a couple of cheap little bits of plastic?)
What are these "plumbing wotsits" and where can I get them please anyone?
As a follow-up thought - what happens about disconnecting the cooker? The removal firm said they don't do that and mine is freestanding (don't know if it will have to go with me or no - as I don't know which exact house I will be buying yet).0
