It is a "suggestion". You don't have to do it!
As said before, plenty of other ways of giving £5 (or less) with the advantage of it being beefed up by Giftaid.0 -
Not to be harsh and I don't know if I'm the only one I thought this... but they said on the program that £5 would totally vaccinate a child. They raised something like £75,000,000 this comic relief, which would vaccinate approximately 15 million children, so why are there droves still suffering and dying?
I do wonder how much of that £75,000,000 actually goes to Africa. And I have to say I wonder how much the multi-million pound celebrities actually donate....
I must admit it does make me uncomfortable when the celebrities say "Please give as much as you can." I just think, are you giving 'as much as you can'? If they were then fair enough but I'm sure they could all easily give much, much more.:j Trytryagain FLYLADY - SAYE £700 each month Premium Bonds £713 Mortgage Was £100,000@20/6/08 now zilch 21/4/15:beer: WTL - 52 (I'll do it 4 MUM)0 -

No-one said they felt they 'had' to, it is more that we are not meant to notice the suggestion of more being needed. I didn't directly donate anything but gave via my son (nose, money to school collecting for it).Ermutigung wirkt immer besser als Verurteilung.

I wonder if the African nations would do the same for us, if we were in need?0

Like the bit where the 6 celebs went down the zambezi river, if the BBC donated the equivelent of what the "trip" cost them and the celebs all made big donations I bet they could have easily hit the 1 million they made.
Plus thinking about it the BBC money to do all these trips and films is our money as well from the licence fee, I would be interested to know how much it actually costs to run it all and if it is BBC or comes from donations-then again either way its all public money.
At least something like the John Bishop or David Walliams or Eddie Izzard sporting things that were mostly in this country or nearby wouldn't cost very much.

In my experience (mainly Southern Africa), Africans are incredibly generous.
I think you would be surprised.0 -
I'm actually quite shocked at people's attitudes on here. I think the very simple fact is children are dying in Africa and we are very lucky not to be in their situation. In the words of Bono, "well tonight thank God it's them instead of you", are very apt.
Comic relief does make a difference and they did show clips to show what had been done with money donated previously. There are awful things happening to people in this country but never as bad as they are in third world countries. Cannot believe that my opinion seems to be in the minority on here.0 -
I think I gave up on Comic Relief a few years, in part because I dislike the forced 'ZANY WACKY KEEERRRRAZEEEE!' vibe of the whole thing, but particularly because they had a feature with an earnest and deeply po faced Victoria Beckham beseeching me to give some money, anything I could, no amount too small when she had been in the news fairly recently for receiving a £1,000,000 pink diamond ring from David.
That just annoyed the crap out of me.0 -

I believe millions fought and died for Britain in WWII.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

That is your opinion and you are of course entitled to it.
In my opinion, this last comic relief was of such abysmal quality that the feel-good factor is missing and people are questioning the whole thing. Exacerbated when begging bits were going noticeably OTT with the really hard sell, this put me right off donating.
There is enormous social pressure not to question anything done in the name of charity. The anonymity of the internet allows these questions to be raised, especially in this particular forum.
