Facebook Lets shout 'No to L&S'!!!

I started commenting on comps that were 'l&s' to point out that they're not allowed, but having seen the backlash on the Old School Locker page I have to question what we hope to gain from it.

It seems 'compers' and MSErs already have a bit of a reputation which I find very sad.

We all have the choice whether to like and share or not. Despite the recent problems with FB I see lots of MSErs are still L&Sing. That's their choice, and their risk. Personally I will be trying not to enter them/risk it all happening again. Other than that I don't see this leading to anything positive now.

Just to add, the comments by and on OSL FB page are disgusting and totally out of order.

I agree - people are free to enter what comps they like - but for the people continuing to like and share - don't start moaning if you get your account closed or a ban!

Absolutely Bella, if they're going to enter them they certainly can't complain when they're blocked again. But it does seem you can't stop them, and since there are so many comps on FB, and so many people determined to support L&S comps we're on a hiding to nowhere with it all.

I will continue to mention on L&S comps that I won't share because of the risk of being banned however.

I think we should consider that there are a lot of companies who follow the rules with competitions, while there are others who are breaking the rules and benefitting.

I have no problem if anyone wants to enter the like and share competitions, and they are entitled to that opinion without being lambasted for it.

I suppose it comes down to the ethics of each individual and what they personally consider is acceptable.

Each to their own.

I agree, it just seems to be dissolving into personal attacks now which is sad.

Well in my case it can't be sour grapes as I rarely enter Like & Share comps - and after the recent accessibility issues I stopped all together. I'm most definitely not angry! I've got much bigger issues in my life to cause me anger....than Facebook accessibility and like and share comps.

I like to think that the majority of the comping community are a helpful considerate bunch. I think that most people contributing on this thread simply want to help increase the legitimacy of Facebook comps - for our benefit and for that of the company! I also can imagine that by using an official app it makes the logistics of administering the comp significantly easier. A bit of a no brainer really!

As it happens, all the companies I've politely messaged - I don't even 'like' their page and I have not entered their comp.
The two replies I've had were appreciative, inquisitive, understanding and polite.

I feel that for companies (one in particular springs to mind) to behave in such a hostile manner, when someone has politely offered them advice is repugnant and grossly unprofessional! Their loss because it's blatently on their wall for all their customers to see!

If it is any use, here is the message I have been sending:

Hi there,

I hope that you don't mind me taking this opportunity to message you, but I thought it would be worthwhile highlighting to you that it is a breach of Facebook rules to run a 'Like & Share' competition on your page.
The institute of promotional marketing have recently produced a useful set of guidelines for running Facebook competitions, which will help you ensure you are running competitions correctly (and explain Facebook's rules more clearly than I am able to) http://www.theipm.org.uk/pdfs/guides...nes_050313.pdf


It is also worth noting that a lot of people have recently had their Facebook accounts closed, locked or suspended (by Facebook) who are cracking down on rule breaches. The companies running the competitions have had their Facebook pages closed and removed without warning and likewise the individuals who have liked and shared these pages as a competition entry, also are being frozen out of their accounts.

Thank you kisto - your message is similar to mine, and like you, I pm the company in private and have not posted on their wall. I think contributers to this thread all have good intentions and are trying to help fellow compers

I agree, the comments on there are disgusting. Treat them with the contempt they deserve and ignore them.
