    I'm allergic to tomatoes.

I eat lots of broccoli (all kinds), green beans, red and white cabbage (coleslaw/cooked), salad leaves (different kinds), gherkins, cucumber, pea shoots, mushrooms, peppers, celeriac, celery, beetroot (occasionally)......

So mostly green on a day to day basis.

Ditto, except while I'm not allergic to tomatoes I have identified that nightshade and wheat combined cause me huge problems - talking severe abdominal pain for several days if I have pasta with tomato sauce. Never seems to be a problem getting green, red and purple on my plate. Also spinach, kale, squash (not in huge quantities), mushrooms, occasional sweet potato, avocado etc. Have to admit I don't eat the full rainbow every day but throughout the week it's not a problem at all - with the range I eat it goes off if I buy it all at once LOL. Looking forward to getting a decent crop of home grown salad going but not planning to plant it until after the next lot of snow.

P.S Spanish strawberries are delish at the moment, had to stop and buy some because I could actually smell them as I went past the greengrocers!
Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan

I hate veg. All except turnip. So the only way I can eat the stuff is hidden in soup. In summer the diet will be easier, I can eat home grown lettuce and salad. And I could eat a pail full of strawbs very easily ;)
  • "Points" is based on low fat. Low carb is the opposite. Tomatoes, carrots and onions are relatively high carb, as is balsamic vinegar.

    OP, don't make this soup!!!

Everything bar carrots is relatively low. They can be left out anyway, but I personally wouldn't exclude any veg from my diet as I love it so much.

But the OP's initial request was for soups which don't have "hidden carbs"...

As a general rule of thumb veg that grows above ground is lower than those that grow below. I've also read that the carbs in higher carb veg are made more available by cooking but become less available when the veg is cold - but my head struggles with that notion LOL

  • It sounds hideous but celery soup is really tasty and (obviously) very healthy, too - just juice a couple of celery sticks, add a little (sweet) potato and heat up! So tasty and it only takes a few minutes :-)
