No it doesnt have to be in place first, the deposits can be paid with some insurers before you take out the insurance.

Oooo which ones allow you to do this?

Well, for a kick off, the one mentioned in this thread does, if you look in the FAQ's it tells you.

Ah no it wasn't for me. Just its a common question asked on here, and the general response is insurance doesn't cover what you've made deposits on.

Thought it might help others if you knew off hand which one allowed this.

  • We are getting married in August this year, and we got insurance as soon as we were able to (a long time ago but I seem to remember something like a two year maximum before the date). I think it was about £70 but literally everything is covered. up to now, we haven't had to use it thank God. However a friend of mine had their venue cancel on them and the insurance was a massive help, so I wouldn't be without it.
The main thing I wanted it for is the venue...in case anyhing happens as that is where we have spent half our venue and would be nigh on impossiblew to find something the same even at this notice for a saturday in August.

However, if I was doing something more like a DIY reception in a church hal or similar I suppose I would be tempted not to get it.

It really depends on what you have to lose and the abilty to arrange something else if something goes wrong such as you venue closing down or your car not tuning up etc.
