Bought a used car from a garage and the cambelt has snapped.

Thanks for updating this. I'm not sure if it counts as "lucky" or not, but it does sound like you've found a garage that takes its responsibilities seriously!0

The garage have done the right thing morally, so they should be given credit for this.
A lot of garages would have not resolved this so well (especially on a 10 year old car). To be fair 307's are dogs anyway, so if they have offered you an alternative I would consider it!0 -
I'm no mechanic, but if they're going to repair it then you're onto a winner IMO. They'll have to invest a lot of time and not inconsiderable money in making it right, and the process will involve replacement / repair of some of the parts that could cost you dear in the future - head gasket replacement springs to mind.
You'll effectively get your engine re-manufactured, and if its too far gone, they'll end up replacing it if they're serious about putting it right. Your car might just last a lot longer than it would have before now.
I stand to be corrected as I'm no mechanic, but thats certainly what I thought after a cambelt incident just after replacement in my car. Drives beautifully after being repaired by the garage that fitted it.0
