Hubby on garden leave-now temping do we need to tell tax credits?

Hubby on garden leave,so still employed and on the pay roll till 30th April.
He has been temping this week and also next week.
Do we need to tell tax credits?i estimated 2012-2013 income will be £24000 and from his garden leave job he will get around 23000.
This temp job won't take him over the estimated income.

So do we still need to tell them?
It's for an agency
Thanks

If he's not going over his estimate I wouldn't have thought so. Nothing to do with tax credits but is he allowed to work for another employer whilst on gardening leave?

I think you need to tell tax credits, Garden leave or holiday pay in lieu doesn't count as being in work. The Tax Credits manual states the end date is when he actually finished attending work.

Have you informed his company his is temping? Some allow it, but just in case, I'd let them know as it can affect his redundancy pay etc

As above, normally you are not allowed to work elsewhere whilst on gardening leave as you are meant to be ready to work at a drop of a hat and could get you into trouble regarding any redundancy payments etc.
Don't trust a forum for advice. Get proper paid advice. Any advice given should always be checked
  • Oh right thanks everyone, I did t know that!

  • Ohh just found it, it says he can take alternative employment while on garden leave but be aware of tax implications.
He will only be earning about 200 a week so does anyone know what the rate of tax is for a second job please?

I've never hard of 'garden leave' - what is it (not time off to do your gardening surely/???!)
  • Garden leave is when he is still employed, still on the pay roll and will get paid till the 30th April but they don't want/need him to be at work.
The reason for garden leave is there are too many ppl working there now so he will have nothing to do.
Does anyone know the rate if tax on a second job? Thanks

there is no "second job" tax

It just gets added to the total for the year, if PAYE it will be 20% and there will likely be some NI as well.
