Hi, I have booked to stay slightly on the outskirts of Birmingham for a weekend as we are off to cadburys world as a surprise for the kids. I have also booked a afternoon to go to the sealife centre. I have managed to secure both discounts on each of these days. Also booked a hotel on a deal so really happy. The hotel is near restaurants and a entertainment complex etc so evenings are fine but looking for something to do when we get there on the Friday and maybe Saturday morning. This ideally I would like to be a free activity. Is there anywhere you would advise that would be nice to see like maybe a park, museum etc that is low in cost to fill our time.

Am I right in thinking sealife is near a canal that does boat trips. Not sure how right that is but trying to figure out what's what after looking at tourist websites for that area. Thanks in advance.

Yes Sealife is right by the canal. The BMAG is huge and has lots to look at and is free http://www.bmag.org.uk/, Ikon is mostly free and depending on the age of your children Think tank is great, but there is a cost. There is also the kids club films on at odeon on a saturday morning and there is a odeon in the centre of brum. It's really cheap compared to taking them normally. There's lots to look around :)

Thank you, we may take a boat ride around the canals then before going into sealife. Thanks for the info we pretty much now decided what we are going to do. Just keeping it secret now from the kids is the hardest part lol x

Sealife Centre is on the canal and if you can't get a boat trip, it's nice to just walk, also there's a good, "proper" burger cafe close to the boat-trip area, sorry, can't remember the name.
Birmingham museum is good because it's quite compact; some of the best pre-rafaelite (wrong spelling!) pic's for adults, mummy room for kids.
You can also take your photo with the bull at the "bullring" shopping centre.
If you are a member of the national trust, the "back-to-back" houses are great for kids...otherwise expensive!
Cadbury World; if you are lucky, you'll smell the chocolate from the carpark.
    Please enjoy your stay,

I managed to get 30% off due to my husbands job, but I do know that you can redeem on the tesco clubcard rewards if you have any vouchers spare.

    Hope you enjoy your break,

Thanks for the link but we are going over a weekend, i think it would be hard to get a discount for a Sat or Sunday.
  • We have just come back late last night, spent all day yesterday at cadburys world, it was brilliant, so much to see and after the tour there is a big play area and food places around the back of the building. The tour took about a hour and half and with added easter entertainment that was going on made our day so much more enjoyable, my little girl loved it. The cadburys shop was not good for my bank balance even though we were giving up to 8 bars of chocolate free and two Easter eggs, we had a 30% discount on the tickets but I would of paid full price as it was fab, especially the Little trains that's take you around the little chocolate wonderland.

We stayed at the Rubery premier inn which itself was on entertainment park. We went and had a meal in the evening and a game of bowling which I booked in advance for discount. Hubby was able to have a beer as we were able to walk back to our hotel after. hotel was spotless and lovely.

Anyone planning on going to cadburys world then the Rubery is fab to stay at central to everything you need, we also took a boot ride around the canals before going to sealife on the sat.

Thank you everyone for your info.

Onto now deciding and planning on our next weekend away!
