Yes, those are XP Drivers. Not a problem to install XP on that machine. Having an Advent XP Recovery disc would help somewhat.

    Hi
all the drivers are work for the wireless card, i have tried the xp and vista drivers.

the driver installs. i then look in device manager wireless card has a yellow circle with an exclamation mark.

when i click properties it says windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. the device may be corrupt or missing. (code 39)

i assume i need to download the driver from somewhere else?

if you're using a router, then the windows inbuilt one is fine :)

Sounds like you have already done this, but you may not have the rights to actually do it. Only the OEM Ultimate and Business editions were sold with downgrade rights.

If you got it preinstalled (as it probably was) you have no rights to downgrade, and may find it difficult to activate XP, or it may decide in a few weeks or months that you have a pirate version and start shutting down every few hours to encourage you to buy a legit copy..

Remember also XP goes end of support in 12 months time and will be a major security risk.

Despite what Gunjack says AV and firewalls are essential and the Windows inbuilt firewall is not great as is in XP, especially as you may use it out of the home or accidentally on someone elses wifi. download and install Microsoft's security essential to give AV and firewall protection. the inbuilt one gives some protection to incoming threats but nothing for virus's you accidentally download or limited cover for something trying to get out and phone home.

The XP firewall is sufficient. It can be argued you don't need a software firewall if you're behind a router - if it's a standalone pc & not part of any network.

As soon as you click a link, you solicit the connection - there ends the province of the firewall.

Incoming traffic should then be filtered by your AV and anything malicious detected and dealt with by your AV.

Malware often injects already trusted processes with code to bypass firewalls with outbound protection.

The OP is putting it on a laptop chances are it will leave the house, and they will forget about what they have installed.

True but the built in XP firewall does not even inspect outgoing traffic at all, at least Windows Defender tries to monitor out going traffic and warn you of anything connecting to the internet thats new or changed.
